Elks Springs Creek Restoration: Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Centennial Valley, MT.

Provided MT Fish Wildlife, and Parks (MFWP) and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) with a geomorphic reconnaissance of Elks Springs Creek, the historic MacDonald Pond, drained in 2010 after 56 years of impoundment. Surveyed channel parameters to assess and predict future Elk Springs Creek channel evolution and relative competence to transport extensive lake bed deposits with goal to re- populate and restore critical fluvial Artic grayling spawning habitat; an ESA candidate and state (S1) Species of Concern. Final design, permitting, and restoration implementation of the spring creek headwaters was accomplished in fall 2016.
